Pedometers

As part of the Healthy Active Kids project, BUD's Toy Library now has 24 Yamax Digi-Walker SW700 Pedometers to loan to the community.  Voted the most accurate on the market in a recent study by Choice magazine they feature 3 functions: step counter, distance and calorie calculator.

10,000 steps is the recommended daily step goal for a healthy adult, but this may not be suitable for some groups such as the elderly and children.  Generally it has been found that children should be doing somewhere between 13,000 to 16,000 steps per day, (see for example Tudor-Locke et al. 2004).  The National Physical Activity Guidelines for Children also clearly states that children need at least 60 minutes (and up to several hours) of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day.  Please note that these are a guide only and do not provide medical advice.  You should always consult your doctor or health care professional before commencing a physical activity program.

Each pedometer is just $4 per fortnight for toy library members and is a simple and effective tool to count your family's steps and hopefully motivate you to do more!  Our pedometers also come with full instructions and an information booklet.

Discounted group loans, for schools or workplaces for example, may be arranged by contacting the coordinator on budstoys@bssn.org.au or calling 6655 2650 (subject to availability).

To borrow a Pedometer you first need to be a toy library member.  If you are not a member and would like to join, click here.
