Tamari Almonds
Tamari Almonds
A simple, tasty treat - great for lunch boxes or snack time.
Ingredients:
raw almond kernals
few drops of olive oil
tamari (similar to soy sauce)
Method:
- Heat a heavy based frying pan on high. When hot, add a few drops of olive oil followed by enough almonds to cover the pan in a single layer.
- Constantly stir the almonds for between 5-8 minutes, until they have turned a shade darker, you can smell their aroma and they are starting to sizzle or pop.
- Sprinkle in enough tamari to just coat all of the almonds. Keep stirring and turn off the heat. The residual heat in the pan should be sufficient to evaporate the tamari and dry out the almonds.
- Spread on an oven proof tray and put in a preheated (150 degree) fan forced oven for 5 minutes to finish drying them out.
- Allow to cool before storing in an airtight container. They will last for a couple of days (but usually are eaten before then).
