Board Members

Open Arms Care Incorporated is Governed by a Board which is made up of volunteers from the local community with specific industry experience, skills and qualifications relevant to the organisations operations.

John Race

John’s professional background is in Special Education. He has held leadership positions as a University Lecturer, Principal of two special schools, TAFE Department Head and Director of Education Services at the Queen Elizabeth II Rehabilitation Centre.

In 1999, John was made a Life Governor of the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children and awarded an Honorary Doctor of Education Degree. He also holds a Teachers Certificate (General Primary), Teachers of the Deaf Certificate, Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Major in Educational Psychology and Special Education and a Master of Education Degree with a Major in Special Education. 

 

Treasurer

Jo Brotherton

Jo was appointed to the Board in November 2016.
Jo has a diverse range of experience in the banking, finance and tourism industries in front of house, reception and customer service-based positions, as well as running her own small business locally in Urunga.
Jo is also the current Urunga Lions Club President and is also involved with the Urunga- Mylestom Chamber of Commerce where she is Vice President.
Jo is a vibrant, caring and passionate person who spends much of her spare time supporting the local community.

 

Board Member

Dee Maxwell-Hopper

Dee Maxwell-Hopper is a Registered Nurse working in Community Nursing.

Over the years Dee has enjoyed working in a number of diverse settings, most prominently in the Northern Territory working in Alice Springs, as well as travelling to many remote Indigenous communities in the role of Chronic Disease Nurse. 

Apart from her Nursing Degree, Dee obtained post graduate studies in both Diabetes Management and Nutrition. For a number of years  she was recognised with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association and held Registration with the Nutrition Society of Australia. 

Dee’s passion is good nutrition and empowering others to see the benefits of healthy eating for whole of wellbeing.
